Default OT: Sim City 4 Makes My Puter Reboot

Nothing else does this... not Titan Quest, not Sims 2 with a ton of downloads, not Dark Age of Camelot during a raid with 20 other people, nothing.

Any idea why this one game reboots my puter?

Eek! Rose, that's bad!

I wonder if it could be your display settings? I know it tweaks mine.

Otherwise, there are several forums and stuff for SC4 - worth Googling for help on this issue? The EA pages are not helpful at all but you would be used to that.

I had a horrid feeling it might be something in the video card or driver... hubby's bright idea was check for a patch... he just doesn't get how Maxis/EA operates!

Well, in the patch notes, I found this:
Quote:
Renderer updates to avoid memory corruption when model instance has an invalid position.
Sounds like a likely candidate to me! And at least 2 of my 3 crashes last night happened while positioning a building...

No, as installed, SC4 would reboot the machine after playing for a short period of time. I patched it; now it crashes in a shorter period of time!

Further lack of progress. Uninstalled a bunch of stuff including SC4. Defragged everything. Reinstalled SC4 on a different partition. I can play the first tutorial city for ages. Any other city: boom.
