Thanks Greg, I won't feel so guilty now for gabbing about all that thrills me... Miros, bless your heart for that suggestion, but all I want to do is ditch this house and get back in the hills where I belong...just can't seem to fit my square self into city life, (suburban life) can't even say where I am, just know I don't like it. Prior to adult responsibilities, I just plain left home at 13 and moved to the state park and planted myself there, (they didn't have Juvie yet!) occasionally campers would take me in and befriend me long enough to feed me well, then i was off again, scouting for new caves...probably a blessing I had so many dern kids or who knows where I'd BE... one of those ferel woodsie people that scare the daylights out of residents...

Hey, if we insisted that people stay on topic, Rose wouldn't be able to post a message at all!

They have feral woodsie people in Missouri? Now that would be an intersting life style, though I suspect such a life would be short.

I'd just use the "New Thread" button. A lot.

And I'd do something like this.

This is the view from my place, South towards Tailem Bend, and West towards the state capital of Adelaide SA, the storm coming in was last night at about 8.30. Strangely, it was clear daylight to my eyes, but the camera didn't think so.

Oh, and I suppose I should put the roof back on the bathroom one of these days.

Well, navigation is navigation I suppose.

The best storms I've been through, you just don't take a camera out into.
Tie yourself to a strong thing, and take deep breaths. As needed.

Personally, I don't mind the open top bathroom, until it rains.

The fact that it is an old industrial tank, that looks for all the world like a ships funnel, just makes it all the better I reckon.
It contains all the latest mod cons. Water-saver dual flush cistern, computer controlled water-saver gas hot water, dial in the temperature and one tap (or faucet) is all that is needed at the shower.

Yep, I sure do have a "flash as Michael Jackson" bathroom.

Even funnier... BeosBoxBoy has an industrial tank on TSR (free right now) that looks just like that. Don't think you can put a bathroom inside it tho.

Ah, just the thing if you happen to have an industrial moment.

Just to log the phenomenon: At the moment (5:04 PM CST on Sunday, December 23, 2007), I am not able to get to Insim. The rest of the net is fine.

Maybe if we log enough data points, we'll be able to establish some correlation.

Added: At 5:08 PM, I got right in.

Well, I can usually get the "new posts" page, but things slow way down/time out when I open up a dozen new pages from links on that page...

Hmm... I wonder if lots of people do that. If you open a dozen links at once, you're beating up the database server in a big way because of the bazillions of database inquiries it has to do for every one of those pages.

Footnote: It happened again at 8:01 PM CDT today. I was trying to post a note on Insim when it dropped off.

You mean for SunSims/The Pearl? I think it's mySQL with vBulletin software.

Well, I can't get into InSimAdult after multiple tries. 12:09 am est

Yeah, I found it very difficult to get to either Insimenator site for most of the evening. It might have been traffic, being a Sunday evening and people on holiday to boot.

Rose is right about how this site is hosted. Sun Sims and The Pearl are hosted on a shared server on pair Networks in Pittsburgh. It's a Unix box running the FreeBSD (Unix) operating system, Apache web server, and MySQL for the the database server. The server is connected to the Internet through 10 backbone service providers (the last time I looked), with connections totalling on 1 terabyte per second.

For my Internet Service Provider from home, I have a cable modem through Comcast. It's great when it works, but the local network's reliability is disappointing; prone to domain name service woes.

I don't think access to Insim is a network problem because (as far as I know) they are hosted in the Dallas Data Center. All the backbone service providers that I know of run mind-boggling data rates on multiple paths between Houston and Dallas, direct to the Dallas Data Center, so the chances of that network getting saturated are pretty slim.

Okay, thanks for that, I was on both sites most of the day and evening, switching back and forth and never had a problem...I did however encounter some strange problems for the first time with MTS2...but it's clear that it was coming from the site, not something from my end...traffic over on both sites was not overly crowded, moreso at Insim than Adult, so the questions remain. ...

I don't recall having any really unusal problems getting to MTS2, other than its response time. There was a time when I didn't see a noticeable lag there, but the lag seems to be getting progressively worse. Probably traffic volume.

Once in a while Delphy is modifying the board, but he usually announces it when he's up to that sort of mischief and mayhem.
