Lol, I'll let you wreck your game first!

And I'll write that thread on making all .package files read-only...

I like the package files. Just like they are.

I DON'T like those damned S2 installer rubbish things.

I did not wreck my game.

I hope.

I'll just go through step 97 again, and not get clever with Maxis\EA stuff.

Hm, while you're in there searching for package files, maybe you can tell which was "modified this week" so you know which EP to reinstall. I suspect that only one file got clobbered, so maybe fixing it will be easy.

Shorty; don't you have the Sims 2 Pack Clean Installer yet???

It's the only thing I will ever use when faced with a #@$! Sims2Pack file.

I changed all my Program File package files to Read Only (thanx Miros!) on my last marathon re-install & have been quite pleased with the results! Noticed several little "glitches" were missing that used to raised their heads before...

I am THRILLED to hear that BV is now working for you!!! Also thanks for the tip about renaming that stupid launcher. What a simple solution to what has proved for many to be a huge problem!

Yeah, the Maxis installer for Sims2Pack files sux. That's where the alphabet soup files come from! Get CleanInstaller and/or MultiPackExtract.

I'll never forget the look on my face the first time I used the clean installer and saw all of the extraneous crap that gets packaged with lots from your game. The horrors!

Even easier, as it was during testing with a totally clean downloads folder, I just un-installed and installed BV again, all fixed now.

Even easier, is when you copy the "fixed" .exe file over, relink your shortcut to the new file, "pin" the new .exe file to your start menu, game just starts.
And no disk is needed in the computer, ever again.

And yep, I took Rosie's advice, and protected my game files from me.

Thank you Miros.

Okay, now to see what I can crash next.

Too late.

I still can't remember the first meeting of the 1981 Aussie speedway season.
End of season 80, I was A grade unlimited.

I got back onto the race track in 83 as a C grader again, with all the work to do all over again.

Que Sera.

I can't remember much about 1981, either; but in my case, it's just encroaching senile dementia.

Tee hee, I was 7. Yet all of the people I know my own age act older than my Granny. Go figure.

Apparently, I did it the other way around.

Okay Rosie, um. Junior or senior?

ZW, Granny knows a secret.

But us oldies, we can't tell you yet.

It's the rule.

Oh, by the way. Bugger.
Got a couple of crash logs from the "fixed" .exe game.

First half of 81, I was a Junior. Second half, I was a Senior. School years don't line up well with calendar years!

Of course, we are one of the few places that do. Sorry, I forgot.

Our school year starts in February and ends in November.

It's "schoolies week" right now over here.

Not so many countries south of the Equator, and lots don't have the same level of government systems we enjoy.

In '81 I would have been 8 or 9 (before/after July 20th, respectively) if anyone cares...

As I prepare to unleash BV on my computer, I continue to read whatever I can about BV/SecuRom issues & how to avoid them. Just finished wading partway through a tread about removing SecuRom from your computer on The Site That Shall Not Be Named & wanted to ask a question...

Shorty: When you did the re-naming the exe file trick, was this before or after you patched BV, if indeed you did patch it?

(So Granny know a secret, eh? Do I get to play 20 questions or something? )

Hmmmm.

Interesting.

There seems to be some controversy on The Site That Shall Not Be Named as to whether renaming the exe file after installing any Official Patches is a good idea or not.

Of course, they're also talking about using a "no CD crack" thing, so maybe that's the real problem!
