Default Updating Windows Disconnected from Cable Modem

This morning, Windows wanted to install Vista SP1, so I let it do that. The installation seemed to go fine but when it was all done, my machine was disconnected from the network.

I puzzled and worried about what SP1 might have done to the BIOS and wondered what to do about it all morning. Then when I got home for lunch, I thought I'd just try restarting the cable modem and the firewall/router.

Yup! That fixed it!

B'b'b'ut... why? What could installing SP1 possibly have had to do with the cable modem?

I can't make any sense of this!
