Codex
I know TS1 seems a little deprecated to most, but i still really like it. I love to hack the objects and i have downloaded every program from the USL plus a few. It seems that Script Station is good, but IFF Pencil 2 is better. In neither one of these can you edit what the primitives actually DO. however, Codex is a program designed to emulate Edith, and i feel is head and shoulders above everything else. i enjoy playing with this program just as much as playing the sims (prolly more even). There are a myriad of tutorials implicating Script Station and IFF Pencil 2, but i have found none, nada, 0 on Codex. Of course, i have taken the info i've learned in other programs and applied it to codex (cuz no matter what your program you're still looking at the same thing), but i am looking for someone who likes and is familiar with Codex to be my new best friend and possibly point me to some tutorials or more info on Codex and/or some info on what the primitives actually do (in lamen's terms).

I have vague memories of working with IFF Pencil some time ago, but I don't even remember what it does.

I've never even heard of Codex. Is that a multi-game tool?

No, it is a program designed to act and run just like Edith. It's design was based off of the only two documents on the net about Edith. One was a tutorial given by Dr. Ken Forbus. They were thinking of taking Edith and making it "end-user" and start beginning video game programming courses with it. But i think the idea failed because you really can't transfer your knowledge of Edith to any other language or platform (but it is a bit similar to some). I am new on the Sims scene, but from what i gather, back in the day, there were a lot of modders and game hackers anticipating it's end-user release. The other resource is a long-forgotten video of Edith being used that was out there on the net at one point. I read an article interviewing an overly-smug Maxis employee who stated that "people ask him for a copy of Edith without even knowing what they're getting". Yeah, they got a cool A.I. engine running everything, and it's cool, but it's not great. I speculate that Edith and SimAntics may be the basis for a more advanced vision of Wright's (i believe the name "Edith" is taken from an artifically intelligent computer in an anime flick) but, still anyone that wants to know anything about Edith is using it to mod and hack. The only thing we're getting that we don't know about is some of the hex descriptions of BCONS and whatnot.
Anyways, if Codex is not on the USL, then i must've gotten it from SimPrograms. |
