Default odd error

I'm using a userstartupcheat file, which has boolproptestingcheats enabled in.

In one or two of my new houses (in brand new Hood) I am seeing odd errors.
In the latest one, one character, teen boy, constantly throwing errors, to the point where I've had to move the family in the hope of it fixing.

Could this be happening because of the cheat? I haven't usually played with it on for long, just put in as required, so this is a new thing for me. (I need the cheats for the pets at least, but I spose I could revert to my old habits and jsut use it now and then.) I didn't have the Lot Sync Timer installed yet on this lot.

One other possible culprit is that I do have a fair few hacked objects. Maybe the Sim was trying to use one of those?

You might want to switch to the pet specific cheats
boolProp petActionCancel true
boolProp ControlPets on
As for why you get constant errors: Basically, the errors would happen anyhow. You just only know about them because the cheat is "on." Post one of your error logs (from the Logs folder) and I'll try to figure out what's wrong.

I have the pets cheats in the userstartup. I am wondering if I should just remove the testingcheatsenabled from it, and use that as required - cos if it is in the userstartup it is ON all the time. I wondered if those errors were just as you said, some sort of constant background objection to user made hacked objects ) Problem was that house became completely unplayable.

I have 'boolprop testingcheatsenabled true' in my startup file, too.

I used to get into error loops quite frequently. The problem is that every time an error occurred, I would get a dialog box about it. If the testing cheats are not enabled, then the game iterates on the attempted action nad sometimes recovers by aborting the command, resulting in a jump bug.

When it happened, the solution was to keep hitting pause until I could get the game to pause (not always easy) and then turn off the testing cheats. That solved the immediate problem--it suppressed the dialog boxes and let the game run until it discovered it had to force a reset.

Then I would go into the error log to see what objects were causing the error. Once I had found the culprit, I removed it from the game no matter what it was.

My game has been very stable for many months now but I am very frugal about what additional content I install.

Not to mention very fussy about what Maxis content you add!

Sita, post your newest error log as ab attachment and I'll try to figure out what's causing your error.

When I got into one of those loops, I'd usually try Abort, which usually didn't do much, then Reset, with the jump bug type results, then Delete. If the person vanished from the family bar, I'd save, go back to the 'hood view, then load the house again. As long as it wasn't a teen enjoying the last of the Smart Milk effects, no harm done. Yes, Smart Milk stays stuck that long!

Yup. I just don't want to have to hunt down updated hacks and stuff, so I am very reluctant to install even Maxis content.

Try "Reset" first to get out that loop. If it doesn't work, then try "Abort." If that fails, try to pause the game and turn off the testing cheats.

Rose, I thought that if you saved, you lose the sim altogether (NPCs excluded) once it was deleted and disappeared from the family bar. I've always just exited without saving sometimes losing a couple of hours of real time equating to days of game time. Is it really safe to to save once the sim is deleted?

One of the last two expansion packs has serious problems with family members permanently disappearing, and you shouldn't save with them gone. However, in Seasons and before I'm sure I've deleted Sims (both with the delete button on the dialog and with the move_objects cheat), saved and come back to them standing by the mailbox looking peeved.

Check for an update -- if it was cloned, it might be outdated for your setup. Glad you found the problem!

haha

I am seriously beginning to think I ahve to make themed games, like with Sims 1 - so a whole Sims game My Documents folderfull of say modern, another of antique and so on. Because my DL folder is SOOOO big now it is very scarey and using the CleanInstaller to check it all (which I do often) takes HOURS.

Also thinking about sorting some stuff into sensible prices. But I suppose I would have to use SimPE to do that? shudders....

There's always a chance that someone will write a stand-alone utility that will enable you tko change the prices of objects without needing to use SimPE, though I have never heard of such a thing.

I seem to remember that Sims2 Categorizer will let you change prices of objects. It only works for custom objects though.

Or you could make one of those override thingies Zirconia made for clothes, and put a different price on the Maxis object.

You mean make a clone of the Maxis item and then use the Sims 2 Categorizer on it?

Yep! But I think you'd only need to clone the bit with the price stored in it.

Yeah. It's probably a matter of figuring how what has a unique internal filename or GUID or something.
