How to Crash the Game by Moving Guests
I found another way to crash the game.
Works every time. Back to the desktop. (That is, with Vista it crashes to the desktop. With Windows XP, the only recovery I found from this sort of error was a hard reboot, sometimes requiring cycling the power switch.) I suspect the glitch happens when I move the character but don't allow the game to run and sort out the map that tells where each character on the lot is located. (But I don't intend to experiment with this to confirm it. I'll just avoid doing anything after moving characters around until the game has run for a while and straightened out my mess.)

I had the same thing happen with selecting babies. I made them selectable so I could make them grow up. Moved them out of the crib to the floor and then gave the grow up command.

Yup, that sounds like applicable data.
Within my experience, if, after moving a character, you let the game run until that character moves or does something, then it's safe to tell that character do something.

Well, wouldn't ya know that, having absorbed all this great wisdom, I went and did it again?
I thought I had let the moved sim run enough for it be safe, but nope! Kablooie!
