exactly, Greg.
I did have a look at this, but it is of course very empty. I mean, I find SL itself quiet and it has 750K people - this has about 1K....
It's also much smaller world, because fewer servers=fewer "islands". I might go there and build, if I could get some land there, looks very much cheaper than main grid, not that that is hard. But right now I am actually playing Sims 1 yet again, it's so relaxing, no-stress, no worries, no people.... and Gazillions of gorgeous downloads. And I know the solutions to most of the problems I might hit; I can USE the programs like TMog, Career Creator. Not one big frustrations like Sims 2 is at the moment, not knowing what is safe to do, and what will break it, or SL where (some of) the people are hard work.

I've been both interested and leery of Second Life for years. A lot of those programs don't work well with the GPUs built onto many motherboards, so that's been one limiting factor. Another is simply the fact that I've been badly burnt (was a member of the VirtualWorlds test team, still technically have a full membership there, but have no idea where my land is, and they aren't helping me relocate it.) It's been 3 machines since I last visited as a tourist there as a direct result, and they started about the time Sims 1 came out. I think!

Still may download the SL client and do some looking 'round. (BTW: Watch out for RedLight Center. VERY adult, yet at the same time, free-account holders can't do anything interesting other than dance. (rather silly for a fully-clothed person to get into a hot tub, for heaven's sake, and free-account players can't switch to a swimsuit, just to name one problem.) At US$20 a month for a paid account, it's too expensive, too.)

Enough rambling here. LOL (and going to the proper site to download the SL client right now!)

UPDATE: Name in-game will be "Kelos Skytower" (which is as close as I could come to my pen-name of "Kelos Hightower") and I absolutely loathe most of the beginner avatars. Hopefully can find something more suitable once in. (sent a referral your way, Shorty.)

SL doesn't cost $20 a month.... and free account players or any players can wear whatever they like so long as it's decent, most places.
Look for good skins - many are free now - search free skins and there are some places (I was at one today) that gives a free avatar pack - skin, shape, some clothes, hair and an AO (animation override) so you instantly don't look like a n00b. Then it's a matter of what you say... and have fun!

Thanks, Sita. Will look into this now that you've alerted me to it. Search how? Via Google? Inside SL? Could make a difference, though I don't know how.
