My preferences are really for novels, the longer, the better. I like million-word series even more! I think it's because when I find characters I like living in a universe that's fun to think about, I want to spend a lot of time with those folks in that place.

Yup! It's been quite a few years but I have done short cross-country day trips on trains. (I'm still not convinced that airplanes are all that great of an idea.)
