ahhh, I already know the computer would prolly puke if I installed anything past Pets.
Now I see there's another new stuff pack - The Sims 2 Teen Style Stuff - coming soon.

I think the main reason I don't get the whole testincheats thing is that I have been an InSim user from- almost- the word go, so for me it just never seemed needed. Also, since the game generates it's own report logs of crashes & whatnot, I always figured I could just look through them for any problems...if I could understand them, that is! Then there is the ever present (albiet cryptic) warning about running testingcheast "too often". I did run into problems with Sims 1 & forgeting to turn the moveobjects on back to off, so I think I'm still a bit gun shy about those continous "offical" cheats. (Again, since 99.9% of my errors are audio- often because a custom floor doesn't "flag right" for the correct walking sound- there isn't much I would ever be able to do in order to fix said errors. I like my various custom flooring, so...)
On the subject of Maxis hitting us with another pack, I just saw the teasers for the Teen Style SP & thought "oh carpletunnel, by the time SimPE is finally ready for H&M/BV it'll be outta date again"...that I caught a glipmse of yet another EP currently set for release in 2008 called The Sims 2 Hobbies. Could it be that Sims will finally have a use for the whole interest thing other that plugging their ears when there kids are talking to them?? (Okay, that's a silly reaction for an adult, but I just couldn't stand having all my Sims have 100% interest in everything. Anyway, snails is a stupid subject anyway...) On a personal update, my BV preperations are taking longer than I thought, so it may be a while before I can inflicte it on my game. Not that anyone really cares, but... *EDITED TO ADD* Here's a (not so great) link that kinda has a little info about the Hobbies EP: http://www.podthesims.com/index.php?view=38 I say not-so-great this dude seems convinced that a picture of a dog on vacation from Sims 1 constitutes proof that pets can go on vacation in Sims 2. (bottom of the page.) Also, from what I understand Hobbies is no longer "pending", but on it's way.

I've never heard testingcheatsenabled can cause problems except for the infrequent error loop Greg described.
If a Sim throws an error that won't go away with Reset, I just hit Delete, save, go back to the 'hood and open the lot again. Does mess up your stuck Smart Milk tho, but I figure that's grounds to use the Lot Debugger's "Make Me Smart" function. (Hm, wonder if that beast is recolorable...) Move_objects, oh yeah, I've screwed the pooch that way myself! |

As I said, I can't say that I run the Testing Cheats "too often" since I almost never start them more than once per game session.
Golly, I'm not at all hopeful that a teen style stuff pack would be to my liking. The style sense at Maxis is rather out in left field, especially the guys' clothing. I was looking through the meshes yesterday and came to the conclusion that Maxis must be staffed exclusively by pimps, nerds, and slobs.

Being me, I'm sure I will snarf up Teen Style because I like having lots of decore options in my game. (Anyway- being a child of the 80's- the "Trasher" look reminds me of my high school days. Well, not me, but many of the kids I went to school with!!)
I have to agree with your take on some of the Maxis clothing though! I think the Elders in perticular got screwed big time! (Actually, I think alot of stuff Maxis "did" to the Elder stage is rotten. Do they think anyone over 50 is ready for the grave or something??? )

Elders can be fixed in SimPE (even if you have H&M).
Pick your favorite adult outfit, open it in SimPE, ignore the warnings, and change the Age flag to 0x58 so it will fit YA-A-Elder. They still have bad posture, but no more droopy boobs, pot belly, or saddlebag thighs! Illustrated tutorial |

Sweet!
Not as sweet as a fix for the rest of the "Elder Stereotype", but sweet none the less!

As far as performance with Vista, and every expansion pack including Bon Voyage, and I have pretty much all settings maxed, I have an initial lag right at the start but then it quits after that. Load times are a little slow but I attribute that to my hard drives.
Unfortunately I can't play Sims 2 at all right now, my graphics card is busted, it's causing major graphic corruption. Here's the specs on my computer: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+ Dual-Core 1 GB DDR2 Memory ( Will probably bump this to 2 GB soon ) 1 Seagate 250GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive 1 Western Digital 250GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive 1 DVD+-RW Burner EVGA Geforce 7600GS 256MB Graphics Last edited by TomP : 09-15-2007 at 02:50 PM. Nope only 1 year warranty, and I'm about 3 months past expiration. Got a new one on order now, won't be here till Wednesday though |

I have a special card that Maxtor makes, so you can have up to 6 drives.

I think I can hook up 8 hard drives to this thing off the SATA bus, but I don't have a need for that many.
2 or 3 Maybe. |

Wow- only 1 gig of RAM with Vista & you say it's working pretty good?
That suprises me after what I've seen at the computer shops... Dang, that IS a nice graphic card! Sucks that it's not working !

Yep, it works well on 1GB. It only performs marginally less than XP to me anyways.

Lol, you've got the same 5500 I've got! Just upgrade the drivers. My game is smoking now! (With Pets and Seasons, no BV)

Mine is even wimpier. It's a 5200, and I'm running the latest drivers for it.

Guess I could have explained that better, it quits lagging. It'll lag for maybe 15-30 seconds after that it's smooth.

Funny that's what I use to have before I moved to the 7600.
