Well, then you'd fully enjoy the movie. Watching it with my husband involves getting "The Nitpicker's Guide to the X-Men" whispered in my ear as a running commentary!
I still remember an interview with 3 of the leading ladies right after the first movie came out... they all said if their characters fought, Jean would definitely lose (including Jean's actress!). Obviously, none of them had read the comic book!
