Vista also keeps a check on itself, it sets what are called system restore points when you install new software or change settings for any reason.
If it all goes "legs up" (an Aussie term for "all buggered up finished" which is New Guinea Pidgin English for "look out we're gonna crash"), just tell Windows System Restore to "roll back to last known good configuration".
All fixed.
