Default Today in Space Flight

For your amusement: Today, July 16, is the 41st anniversary of the launch of Gemini X.

Gemini X
Launched July 18, 1966

Gemini X is shown approaching its Agena target vehicle, a critical milestone in developing the ability to rendezvous and dock.

For me, the Gemini program was the best part of the whole manned space program. On the other hand, just three years (minus two days) later... hoo boy...

Apollo 11
Launched July 16, 1969

The Apollo flights to the moon ended when Apollo 17 splashed down on December 19, 1972. Neither man nor robot has landed on the moon since then.
